“It’s Not Cheating If It’s With Your Step Sister” announced…UH, PARDON?
In what can only be described as a title straight out of PornHub, the new light novel “It’s Not Cheating If It’s With Your Step Sister ” (Imouto wa Uwaki ni Fukumarenai yo, Oniichan) is set to be released by Fantasia Bunko (Parent company Kadokawa) on January 22, 2022. The textless cover is above, illustrated by Hira Tsukune, with the story by Mihara Mitsuki.
So if you are in America, you might assume the plot is that a young student is dating a girl until one day he walks in to see his step sister stuck inside of a washing machine. But this story does not take place in Louisiana, and the actual story is more geared to the Otaku crowd than it seems.
The step-brotagonist, Aoi Tsukigake, is the <GENERIC LONG-HAIRED JAPANESE GUY> who has been spending time building a new relationship with his girlfriend Shiroi Hoshino. Shiroi is the quintessential beauty of the school, who seems to have a slight fear of men. She’s also a huge otaku and fan of cosplay. With that, she also seems to be a fan of Aoi’s step sister Aika, who just happens to be a cosplayer. The step sister Aika also has been trying to get closer and closer to her step-bro Aoi.
What kind of insidious affair is going to kick in when only Aoi and Aika are together? What will his girlfriend do when (if) she finds out? How much are NTR and weird sibling relationship fans going to climax when they finally get a chance to read this light novel? Most importantly, what will clickbait websites that don’t even consume novels/manga/anime say when this title gets enough attention to hit their radar?
You’ve got to admit, the timing and structure of this title are attention-grabbing enough to make you do a double-take. At first, I thought this was just a mistranslation of the series A Sister’s All You Need , which is a pretty entertaining anime series itself. But no, the title is clearly what the material is aiming for. Honestly, the title and content doesn’t look like it was written for me. If it’s trying to be more comedy than drama, then maybe. We’ll see how much it delivers when the first volume is released this month.
